The Embassy of Peru in South Korea is showcasing an exhibition titled “A Sombre Aspect” at the Korea Foundation Gallery from March 27 to May 16.

The exhibition features the works of Peruvian photographer and artist Roberto Huarcaya, known for his large-scale photograms and innovative approach to visual storytelling.

Among the works on display are “Band of Musicians from Coyllurqui,” “Yawar Fiesta,” “Eucalyptus Forest,” “Flying Dancers” and “Scissors Dance Children,” which give an insight into Peru’s traditions and landscapes, with the themes: Nature, Nature Alike and Nature Within.

“These images reconnect the viewer with a sense of enchantment and sensitize them to the untamed aspects of nature,” the Peruvian Embassy in Seoul stated in a press release.

“Its value lies not in its evocation of an archaic method favored by early photographers but in its deliberate departure from the camera and the ideology of capture often entwined with it,” the embassy noted.

According to the embassy, Huarcaya challenges traditional viewer perceptions, blurring the lines between subject and object, reality and representation through monumental and immersive photographs.

The embassy sees the exhibition as the start of a cultural exchange to promote shared values and lasting artistic connections between Peru and Korea.
